Recorded at Soundworks Recording Studio in Astoria from November of 2010 through early 2011 by the amazing and talented engineer Kamilo Kratc, this sampler contains five originals by Josh and ten covers of jazz, latin and kids standards. Genres include latin jazz, bolero-son, cumbia, ska and Americana.
Featured artists include vocalist and pianist Champian Fulton, National Resonator guitarist and vocalist Frank "the real Harley" Schaap, conga player and vocalist Jainardo Batista, tres player Aaron Halva, violinist and vocalist Mireya Ramos, tenor saxophonist Lance Murphy, trumpeter Fabien Mary, drummer Lawrence Leathers, pianist Ian MacDonald, guitarist and vocalist Brian Lazarus, drummer Karina Colis, harmonica player Miguel Weisman, percussionist David Langlois, vocalist Shea Fiol and percussionist Samuel Torres.
Some of the highlights are the vocal pairings. Jainardo Batista, Josh and Mireya Ramos blend beautifully on Levine's Winding Road and Desvelo de Amor, perhaps the most widely praised song by the great Puerto Rican composer Rafael Hernandez. The silky voice of Champian Fulton and the rugged texture of Frank Schaap's vocals create striking contrasts on Two Sleepy People and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Schaap is a real character -- Harley, played by Steve Earle on the HBO series Treme, is based on Frank.
