Family Academy Theme

(All instruments and vocals by Josh Levine)
Josh Levine
I wrote this in September, 2001 when I was teaching music at The Family Academy on 113th Street between Fredrick Douglass Boulevard and Adam Clayton Powell. I taught it to my students and we sang it in class and at some school assemblies and performances. Two of my most advanced 6th grade recorder students actually learned to play the two lines as a duet on their recorders.
We laugh together
We cry together
We learn together
That's why together that we are
The Family Academy

We work together
We play together
Through good and bad times
We stay together for we are
The Family Academy

We read together
We write together
In song, our voices unite together
For we are
The Family Academy

We add together
We multiply and we know
How to subtract and divide
At the Fam'ly
Academy, in Harlem

Family Academy
We are part of the...

I wrote this school anthem shortly after September 11, 2001 when I was teaching music at The Family Academy (now P.S. 241) on 113th between Adam Clayton Powell and Fredrick Douglas Boulevards.
